Community College and High School Partnerships: Success On All Levels

Community Colleges play a vital role in partnering with high schools to assist in the implementation of college and career readiness. Staggering national statistics show that students who are graduating high school are struggling to handle college-level work due to their previous learning. Consequently, the retention rates for first year college students suffer because of lack of interest, the need for developmental courses, loss of motivation and no desire to utilize on-campus resources. A strong rapport between high schools and community colleges can positively change the high number of students who graduate and feel under-prepared to earn a college degree. The development or revamping of dual credit programs, placement exam preparation, career planning and value-added incentives are examples of how students will benefit as they aspire to reach both their educational and occupational goals.
